Marvin After graduating from Hampton University in 2007, Marvin Anderson worked at The Roanoke Times creating and populating Web sites, covering public safety and writing for the paper’s burgeoning hyperlocal projects. He has also worked with the Dow Jones Newspaper Fund at the Detroit Free Press and in programs with The New York Times and Associated Press.
Sarah Sarah Butrymowicz studied political science and communications at Tufts University where she worked as a news editor and managing editor for the Tufts Daily. She interned at both the Green Bay Press-Gazette in Wisconsin and at USA Today. Outside journalism, her interests include reading, running and cooking.
Cecile Cecile Dehesdin is from Paris and came to Columbia as part of a double degree program with Sciences Po. Cecile interned at several publications including Le Monde.fr, Politico.com and Slate.fr. When she isn’t wandering uptown in search of news stories, she enjoys musicals, comedy TV series and unpasteurized cheese. Cecile speaks English, French and Spanish.
Ashley Ashley Foxx received a Bachelor of Arts dual degree in communications and English from the University of Pennsylvania in 2005. Ashley worked in the magazine industry at Magazine Publishers of America, Hearst Magazines and Black Enterprise. Originally from Memphis, she now lives in Harlem.
Rachael Rachael Horowitz is from Brooklyn. She studied history at the University of Michigan and was a 2005 Teach for America corps member. Rachael taught at the Urban Science Academy in the South Bronx for four years and now lives in Harlem.
Marvin Rebecca Huval worked as a freelance writer and teacher in Mexico City last year. Her work has appeared in Filter Magazine, Inside Mexico magazine and the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Rebecca received a B.Music in arts and culture reporting from Northwestern University and blogs about songwriting at http://handclaps.wordpress.com.
Andy Andrew Keshner covered town hall for The Southampton Press and the retirement savings market for Institutional Investor News. His work also appeared in the Manhattan Times, the Forward and ESPN The Magazine. Andrew graduated from Bowdoin College in 2003 and now lives with his wife in Washington Heights.
Tim Tim Kiladze hails from Toronto, Canada where he worked in fixed-income trading and investment banking. He also contributed to Torontoist.com, which catered to his interests in pop culture, politics and photography. Tim grew up playing baseball and football, and he has the scars – from shoulder surgery and a broken jaw – to prove it.
Shareen Shareen Pathak grew up in the concrete jungles of Singapore and studied political science at the University of Toronto. She has worked as a researcher for a counter-terrorism agency, an intern at a policy think tank, and a staff writer for a number of newspapers. Her hidden talents include classical Indian dancing and baking, and she has an uncanny knack for whistling.
Sam Sam Petulla graduated from Wesleyan University in 2007. He has worked at Google, an art library, a Cadillac dealership, and as a freelance editor for his friends. He likes (and tries to write about) philosophy, music, and film.
Nate Nate Rawlings grew up in Tennessee and studied history at Princeton University. He served as a U.S. Army officer for five years, including two tours of duty in Iraq as a platoon leader and embedded advisor to the Iraq Army. In his spare time, Nate likes rugby, cycling and watching any and all sports.
Sonal Sonal Shah grew up outside Washington, D.C. and in New Delhi, India. As part of her degree in anthropology from Swarthmore College, she wrote about Kashmiri migrants in the Indian tourism industry. Sonal spent the past four years in Delhi, where she worked as an editor for Time Out magazine.
Shane Shane Snow is a web entrepreneur and artist, building websites for businesses for more than a decade. His obsession with technology and writing is paralleled only by his passion for pizza. Shane holds a bachelor’s degree in business and marketing and has spoken at various search marketing conferences.
Josh Joshua Tapper was born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario. He spent the past four years studying History and English at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where he occasionally wrote for the student newspaper. He aspires to write long-form narratives on any, or all, of his interests: race, ethnicity, religion, sports, and, of course, movies.
Suzanne Suzanne Weinstock covered global finance as a senior writer at PEI Media, contributing to Private Equity International and Private Equity Real Estate magazines as well as their corresponding daily news sites. Prior to joining PEI Media, she serviced alternative asset management companies as an associate at business communications firm Financial Dynamics. Suzanne graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor’s degree in religious studies and a minor in international relations.
Lisa Lisa Waananen reported for newspapers in Indianapolis, Spokane, Wash., and Flagstaff, Ariz., and most recently worked at the Student Press Law Center in Washington D.C. She grew up in Minnesota and graduated from Washington State University.
Hani Hani Yousuf has a bachelor’s degree in English and taught middle school English before a stint at Newsline, a Pakistani news magazine, converted her to journalism. Her main interests are theater, literature, food, dance and music
